IEP Meeting Prep Checklist

Walk in organized and confident.

Before the meeting

  • Review the current IEP and recent progress reports
  • Write down your top 3 concerns and goals
  • List questions you want answered
  • Request any evaluations/records you haven't seen
  • Decide if you want to bring someone with you

Bring with you

  • The current IEP + your notes
  • Examples of your child's work or struggles
  • A list of services/accommodations you want to discuss
  • A notebook (or ask to record, where allowed)

During the meeting

  • Ask for anything unclear to be explained in plain language
  • Make sure goals are specific and measurable
  • Ask how each goal will be measured and reported
  • Don't sign anything you don't understand or agree with — you can take it home

After the meeting

  • Send a thank-you + recap email confirming what was decided
  • Note any follow-ups and their dates
  • Add new deadlines to your tracker
